When was the last time you thanked your customers? I mean, personally thanked them? In this fast-paced world we live in, it seems customers are in and out quicker than ever.
They might want your product or service so quickly that they move on before you have a chance to reach out to them. Let’s face it—we can also get so busy that we completely miss the opportunity to say “thank you.”
Being thankful is a two-way street, but as an entrepreneur, thanking your customers is just good mindful business practice. Thanking your customers does not have to be complicated! In fact, usually the most simple ways are the most effective.
Below are a three methods you can use to show your customers you're thankful for their business.
Open Door Method
This method is done before your customer has purchased your product or service.
What?
Yes, before they are technically your paid customer, remember to say thank you for their interest right away. For example, a client calls you and is interested in your product or service. Start the conversation by thanking them for taking the time to learn more and for noticing what you’re offering.
After the Sale Method
After the customer has purchased your product or service, immediately express to them how thankful you are. This should be done as soon as possible, and definitely within the first 24 hours after the sale.
This is the most common method, but it is also the most under-served. If you want to make a real difference in your customer’s life after saying thank you, provide them with a free bonus gift.
You probably already give random customers small, free tokens of appreciation from time to time, so start there and do it after the sale. Both you and the customer will feel the affects of this form of gratitude.
Thinking of you Method
This method lets your customer know you have been thinking of them after some time has passed. Even if you think this is a one-time sale, this method is extremely important.
Send them an email, give them a friendly phone call or even send them a card by mail to let them know they are still on your mind, expressing to them that you’re so thankful they chose you to serve them.
This method can be as simple or as extravagant as you want. The most important thing with this method is that you take action.
Of course, for the best results, take action on all three methods. If this overwhelms you, simply choose one method that best fits your business and customers.
When you're lost on which method is best, try each one and see how your customers react. You can be even more direct and simply ask your customer how they like to be appreciated.
There really is no wrong or right way to live in gratitude and show thanks to customers, but these methods have been proven to work for many entrepreneurs. Using these methods in my own company, I now have the joy of valued customers returning year after year.
